In order to ensure the most accurate and effective assessment of the academic quality and market value of the materials submitted for publication, authors are asked to include information on the following aspects in their publication proposal:
Mandatory criteria:
Authors must submit significant excerpts from the volume. These excerpts must be sent together with the complete manuscript.
A work will not be evaluated solely on the basis of selected excerpts, since the publishing house must verify the absence of plagiarism, the actual feasibility of publishing the work within the required timeframe, and other relevant editorial aspects.
The peer-review editorial evaluation process consists of two stages: first, an evaluation of the significant excerpts, which is eliminatory; and second, an editorial analysis of the full manuscript, during which the entire content of the volume is assessed.
The proposal must also include:
- an abstract of the volume in Romanian and English;
- a set of 10 keywords;
- technical information about the book: number of pages, illustrations, diagrams, tables, etc. If color printing is requested, authors are asked to specify this clearly;
- a clear classification of the volume within one of Sapientia Publishing House’s fields of publication:
- Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies;
- History and Cultural Studies;
- Educational Publications;
- a declaration of compliance with Sapientia Publishing House’s editorial guidelines, as well as a declaration accepting the evaluation of the volume by the publishing house’s reviewers;
- a letter of intent. The letter should present the arguments considered by the author to be significant for the acceptance of the work for publication, as well as the reason for choosing Sapientia Publishing House;
- the author’s CV, accompanied by a short biographical description of 10–15 lines and a photograph. The description should include relevant information from the author’s biography, such as previous publications, courses taught, academic or research internships, and research activity. Submitting an author description is not an eliminatory criterion, but it may improve the evaluation score of the work.
Important: Authors should pay careful attention to the drafting of the publication proposal. It should contain no spelling or expression errors, should not be ambiguous, and should not include unclear formulations. The proposal must be coherent and concise, allowing reviewers to understand exactly what the work is about, as well as the elements of originality and academic or cultural value proposed by the volume.
It is an advantage to submit a letter of intent containing the following information:
- a clear identification of the benefits and advantages that readers, especially undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, may gain from reading the proposed volume;
- information, where available, regarding the type of audience that may be interested in the volume, such as students, teaching staff, researchers, and, where possible, an approximate number of targeted readers;
- a presentation, in a few paragraphs, of the subject and theme of the volume, its epistemological, methodological, and cultural approach, the aims pursued in preparing the work, such as whether it is intended as a university course, monograph, doctoral thesis, etc., and information about the research on which the volume is based, where applicable;
- the original character of the publication and the way in which it differs from other publications currently available on the market;
- the main works in the bibliography that contributed significantly to the preparation of the volume, whether as a paradigm, methodology, vision, or as ideas that the author has argued for or challenged;
- the main gaps in knowledge in the field in which the volume is situated, which led the author to prepare the work, if such research gaps have been identified;
- the author’s view on how the field is likely to develop and approximately how long the information presented in the volume is expected to remain current before becoming outdated;
- the number of books with similar content identified on the Romanian or international market during the preparation of the volume.
